28 Jun Surface + Expression
Surface + Expression
June 7 – July 3
Opening Reception April 7, 5-8pm
Bringing together the highly diverse practices of New York based artist Katie Heffelfinger, Budapest based painter János Huszti, and British x-ray photographer Nick Veasey, the group exhibition ‘Surface and Expression’ explores portraiture and abstraction from the inside out. Veasey wields a post-industrial Russian, linear accelerator producing x-ray tableaus with a wide range of subject. Hungarian born Huszti’s paintings are evocative of analog photography, capturing women in singular, yet elegant moments with his practice of oil on canvas. Katie Heffelfinger’s watercolor based paintings are inspired by the art of Aboriginal predecessors such as Dorothy Napangardi and the Napangardi sisters, her work strives to echo their ability to create a visual language from the sparse yet striking visual and natural of the Australian Outback. ‘Surface and Expression’ seeks to explore and interpret components of everyday life with a distinct and wide materiality of these three artists’ practices.
