14 Feb Happy Valentine’s Day!

Here at MiXX, we think Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be reserved for romance alone. We’re big proponents of swapping thoughtful cards with friends, Galentine’s Day brunches, and basically any excuse to share chocolate with someone. In the spirit of an equal opportunity celebration of love, we wanted to share with all of you the jewelry and fine art our team members are crushing on this February. Even if you’re not trading Valentines with anyone this year, it’s never a bad idea to show yourself a little love with a special treat from you to you!

Our fearless manager Hannah is loving the bold, modern designs from Michelle Ross Jewelry. Michelle’s unexpected shapes merge the architectural with the organic to create truly unique pieces. Grounded with traditional metals and clean lines, her pieces are edgy and funky, yet wearable.

Hannah’s also crushing on the exquisite oil paintings from local favorite, Britt Bradford. Featured heavily in our February exhibition, The Salon, Britt’s small works elegantly toe the line between realism and painterly gesture, capturing an impressive amount of emotional nuance on tiny canvases. If you love them as much as we do, join us on March 1st for the closing reception of The Salon, where Britt will be giving a talk about her work and process.

Meg is smitten with one of our new fine jewelry lines, Misa. The delicate yet evocative pieces are inspired by the designer’s upbringing in the Pacific Islands, and are handmade using lost-wax casting. This centuries-old casting technique involves carving wax molds by hand, resulting in an organic end product that carries the mark of the artist’s hand.

The sparkling worlds of Lisa Swerling’s shadowboxes have also stolen Meg’s heart. Surrounded by enchanting walls of glitter, Lisa’s charming miniatures evoke moments of joy even on the coldest winter days.

As for me, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about Anna Monet’s line of gold and horse hair earrings since we started carrying them this season. A short hair lifer, I love wearing dramatic earrings, and these definitely fit the bill. The combination of geometric metal and organic fibers makes for a statement that is equal parts bold and natural.

Additionally, I’m in love with the work of one our newest artists, Sarah Winkler. Her moody, dreamlike mixed media landscapes capture the emotional atmosphere of the mountain environs where I feel at home. We’ll be exhibiting her work for the first time this March, so you can catch them at the next Art Walk!
We hope you’re all having a safe and wonderful winter, and that your Valentine’s Day is spent with all of your favorite people! If you’re in town, stop by and let us know what you’re crushing on, too.
Much love,
The MiXX Team
